UK embassy worker found dead in Lebanon

A female British embassy worker has been found strangled near a highway outside Beirut, a Lebanese security source said on Sunday. The BBC reports that there is suspicion she was murdered. The expressway is a mountain road that links the coastal area of Metn north and east of Beirut with the town of Baabdat in the hills of Mount Lebanon.

Her body was taken to Dahr al-Bashak Hospital where a post-mortem has now taken place.

She had been at a bar in the Gemmayzeh area of central Beirut and had reportedly left alone just after midnight. She had previously worked as an Iraq Research Analyst with the FCO. We are doing all we can to understand what happened. "We request that the media respect our privacy".
