Updating an earlier report, Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson was suspended for showing up late to a team meeting on Friday. Friday's development supports that notion and opens up the possibility that Wilkerson has already played his final snaps for the Jets.
Wilkerson, 28, was benched for the first quarter back in Week 13 during the Jets' matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs after he showed up late to a meeting. That underwhelming performance has led to speculation the Jets will cut him after the season, a move that would free up salary space.
And according to Ralph Vacchiano of SNY, it wasn't just a few minutes late, either.
Now it appears unlikely that Wilkerson will be part of the team beyond this season. "I'm not anxious about Mo right now".
"Coaching decision, he won't be making the trip, he's not playing", he said.

Ajinkya Rahane's father arrested after vehicle mows down woman
According to reports, the 67-year-old woman was hit by Madhukar Rahane's vehicle near Kagal Bus station in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. Team India batsman Ajinkya Rahane's father on Friday was arrested in Kohlapur, it is being reported .
This is just the latest issue involving Wilkerson, who sat out the first few series against Kansas City on December 3 for being late to a team meeting. Since signing a five-year, $86 million contract in July 2016, he has produced only eight sacks in 28 games. Wilkerson is slated to make $16.75 next year, so if he was released by the third day of the league year in March, he would lose all of it because it isn't fully guaranteed.
Wilkerson, the Jets' first-round pick in 2011, posted a career-high 12 sacks in 2015.
Child emergency or not, Friday's decision made it clear Bowles and the Jets are fed up with Wilkerson's repeated tardiness.
When asked if he still considers Wilkerson a leader, Bowles punted on the question.
"I'm just worrying about the guys I'm coaching". NY has a roster exemption until 4 p.m. Monday, when they have to make another move to activate him or release him. So the Jets have to make a decision on Kerley by then - activate or cut.
