Knife-wielding man shot at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport

Dutch police say they have shot and arrested a man who wielded a knife at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport.

The Marechaussee police service said the "situation is safe" and the suspect has been detained and removed from the scene.

A police officer said that the man threatened with a knife and the military police shot him, after which, he was taken into custody. Check back for updates. The police haven't confirmed whether the incident was related to terror.

"He was shot in the leg and taken to hospital in Amsterdam".

Tom Boelen, general manager of the next door restaurant Per Tutti, said he was told by his staff that there was a shooting happening.

"Man shot by the military police at Schiphol Airport after he threatened [people] with a knife".

There are no reports of injuries and the airport - one of Europe's biggest - has now reopened.
