Stipe Miocic-Francis Ngannou heavyweight title fight targeted for UFC 220


Miocic last defended his championship back in May.

Prior to the two colliding in the Octagon, the UFC President in Dana White had stated the the victor of the bout would be getting a shot at UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic. UFC 220 appears to have a new main event. Light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier faces Volkan Oezdemir in the co-main event in Boston.

Miocic (17-2) will bid to become the first fighter in UFC history to successfully defend the heavyweight title three times when he takes on Francis Ngannou (11-1), who has earned his shot after a spectacular performance on Saturday night at UFC 218. The heavyweight champ last fought at UFC 211 in May. After losing names like Matt Mitrione, Roy Nelson, and Gabriel Gonzaga (the first two to Bellator, the latter to retirement) and seeing divisional stalwarts like Cain Velasquez, Mark Hunt, and Junior dos Santos all out for varying reasons, the herd has been considerably thinned.
