Last Summer, Crystal Dynamics hired Ian Milham as their Franchise Director for Tomb Raider, effectively confirming that a third game in the rebooted adventures of Lara Croft was in the works. That's pretty much the extent of it though.

They do say "Our journey together will begin with a major event in 2018" either signaling the release window to be next year, or just the announcement is poised to be in the next twelve months.

Additionally, Square Enix announced that "it won't be very long between the official reveal and when you can play". If you take the first letter from each sentence, they spell out the word "Shadow". "We simply can't wait to take you on Lara Croft's defining adventure". According to Square Enix, the first reveal will happen soon, later in 2018.

The tweet states that Square Enix is taking a "new approach," though whether that means a new approach to their announcements, or a new approach to the series is unclear.

Despite The Game Awards taking place tonight at 8:30 PM EST, some companies have chose to announce some big news beforehand. While it will come as no surprise to most that a new game is in development, Square Enix has kept very quiet about any upcoming Tomb Raider projects until now.
