A source close to the studio insisted to us that the release of the film was still on track for December 2018, but the only firm comment from Fox on the record is that "Twentieth Century Fox Film has temporarily halted production on Bohemian Rhapsody due to the unexpected unavailability of Bryan Singer". The trade writes that the studio made a decision to ax Singer after the director disappeared from set and allegedly got into a confrontation with star Rami Malek, who plays the late Freddie Mercury in the film.

Malek complained to the studio, charging Singer with not being present on set, unreliability and unprofessionalism. Tom Hollander, who plays Queen manager Jim Beach, briefly quit the film due to Singer's behaviour.

A new story from The Hollywood Reporter makes specific mention of tension between Singer and Malek.

Per T.H.R., Singer was "absent during production on several occasions", and did not return to the set after Thanksgiving break.

Malek and Singer had at least one heated argument on set, where Singer reportedly threw an object.

Deadline, meanwhile, has reported that Fox has been sounding out directors to potentially step in and finish the movie, should that be required.

Filming has been halted on the upcoming Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.

THR further reports that the film still has two weeks worth of principal photography and the project will announce a replacement director shortly.

Sources tell the publication that Singer's unprofessional behaviour on and off set resulted in multiple complaints to the studio.

No word yet on whether the chaos behind the scenes will have any affect on the release of Bohemian Rhapsody, which is now set to premiere on December 25, 2018.
