Robinho sentenced to nine years in prison over sex assault

FORMER AC MILAN and Manchester City forward Robinho has been sentenced to nine years in prison after being found guilty of raping a woman in 2013.

The alleged act took place during the Brazilian's stint with Milan in 2013, with a then 22-year-old Albanian woman accusing him, along with five other men, of indecently assaulting her at a night club.

The sentence will not begin until after Robinho has appealed the verdict.

Robinho played for Milan between 2010 and 2015.

Robinho moved to Europe amid much hype in 2005 when he joined Real Madrid from Santos - but he only showed his talent intermittently.

The Tribunal in Milan tonight sentenced Robinho to nine years of imprisonment, which is likely to be appealed, meaning the sentence is unlikely to be enforced until the outcome of that.

According to a report by Sky Sports, the 33-year-old star is now in Brazil, playing for Atletico Mineiro.

Robinho managed just 10 appearances for the Chinese Super League outfit though before joining Atletico Miner previous year. And after a five year spell, he secured a transfer to Chinese side Guangzhou Evergande.
