Amazon launches in Australia this week

Right now, Amazon Australia still only officially sells ebooks and Kindles, but if the retail giant does begin business on Black Friday, expect to see big discounts on hard-to-find PS4 Pro, Xbox One X and maybe even SNES Mini stock, and you could possibly even snag yourself a dazzling big-screen 4K telly for cheaper. That said, there's still hope that the service will be available to all in time for ridiculous Black Friday sales.

The email added: "Once you have passed Seller Identity Verification you will be part of this testing phase and you should be prepared to receive orders from this point onward".

Pundits have projected online spending in Australia will grow at an annualised 13.5 per cent over the five years to 2017-18, to reach $20.1 billion in the wake of Amazon's arrival in the market.

"Let's Make History!" the email said.

The news of the launch follows reports today that Speciality Fashion Group - owners of retail brands Katies, Millers and Rivers - have announced plans to close 300 of its retail outlets Australia-wide as consumers increasingly tighten their wallets and askew bricks and mortar stores. "And the USA giant has chosen to open its doors in time for Black Friday sales and the Christmas period, allowing consumers to test how convenient its service can be during the busiest retail periods of the year".
