Marshawn Lynch sits for USA anthem, stands for Mexican anthem

President Donald Trump suggested that the NFL should suspend the Oakland Raiders' running back Marshawn Lynch for the rest of the season if he sits during the USA national anthem again.

According to reports on the scene, Lynch sat down shortly after the start of the national anthem and stood, not at attention, for Mexico's anthem. Critics of the protest have slammed it for being disrespectful to the USA military and armed forces.

Trump was bothered by Lynch's actions before Sunday's 33-8 loss to the New England Patriots at Estadio Azteca.

However, last month he wore an t-shirt that read "Everybody vs Trump".

In a game on Sunday night played in Mexico, Lynch took a seat a few measures into the "Star Spangled Banner", but stood when Mexico's anthem came on. TV ratings are, however, down this season although the same is true for sports across America including Nascar.

That hasn't stopped Trump from demanding he be suspended the rest of the season for his actions.

Trump's tweet is likely to play well with his base - an ESPN survey showed the majority of white Americans oppose the protests.
