American Music Awards 2017: Christina Aguilera pays tribute to Whitney Houston

Meanwhile, other "negative Nancys" of cyberspace have been distracted from the musical side of things by Aguilera's physical appearance, expressing shock at her sudden resemblance to a certain Aussie rapper...

Viola Davis reminded us "it was this week 25 years ago that we all fell in love with Whitney Houston", and then introduced Aguilera, calling her "another singer with a mesmerizing voice", who performed songs from the film's Grammy-winning soundtrack. In a video posted to Twitter after the performance she thanked the AMAs and the Houston family, saying "I've had the time of my life".

Pink herself took to the stage twice last night: once on her own, and once as part of a duet with Kelly Clarkson, in which the pair sang REM's Everybody Hurts in tribute to the emergency services.

She wrote: "Christina f**king killed it tonight for one of our favorite singers ever".

After the performance, Pink was quick to clear up any confusion about her feelings towards her old Lady Marmalade singing partner.

"I hope I made you proud, Whitney", She added. She opened with arguably the late diva's signature song, I Will Always Love You - and despite her powerhouse vocals, proved that Houston's iconic performance is hard for anybody to live up to.

Seriously, it's an instant reaction GIF classic.

However, Pink wasn't the only person with a not-so-positive review of the Whitney tribute.

The AMAs also featured performances from Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and Shawn Mendes, while Diana Ross walked the red carpet with her whole family in preparation of her lifetime achievement award.
