Volunteers needed for Salvation Army red kettle campaign

"It's about five shifts per day per location", Sadowy said.

"We have 66 opportunities for bell ringers between November 24 and Christmas Eve", Tracy Hebdon, SEICAA coordinator, said. The tradition was created in 1979 and helps relieve the stress of gift giving for millions of families every year. "Now, I can't walk by a kettle without putting money in". Thousands of Salvation Army bell-ringers fan out across the country to ring bells and solicit donations to the iconic Red Kettles from holiday shoppers. All the donations raised in the kettle campaign stay local and are used for the Christmas Assistance Program, along with other programs throughout the year. "We raised $16,000 a year ago". The programs include daily lunches and a seasonal men's shelter.
