"I think that would've been a smart move, but, I don't know, I just don't see all of the Greek life being suspended as a good idea considering the good stuff that has come out of some of them", said Haley Wares who also attends Texas State.

The Phi Kappa Psi pledge, Matthew Ellis, attended a fraternity event Sunday night and was found unresponsive in an off-campus apartment complex the next morning. Medics responding to a 911 call pronounced him dead about an hour and a half later, San Marcos police said.

In response to Coffey's death, the university instituted an alcohol ban, ended the recruitment of any new Greek life members, and prohibited all Greek social events, including tailgate parties and chapter meetings.

Trauth has asked Joanne Smith, vice president of Greek Affairs to immediately "review and propose recommendations for reinstating fraternity and sorority chapters that demonstrate a commitment to the core values of Texas State and the ideals established by their respective national organizations".

No other details were released. Investigators believe alcohol may have been a factor in his death, but are awaiting toxicology results from the autopsy, which is expected to take 6-8 weeks.

Texas State's student newspaper, The University Star, reports that the fraternity event was an initiation for new pledges. Members of Phi Kappa Psi declined a request to comment. That investigation is ongoing.
