Padmavati row: Bollywood celebrities speak in support of Sanjay Leela Bhansali

The protests have started to turn violent as Karni Sena on Tuesday vandalised a cinema hall in Kota and warned the cinema hall administration to not release the film.

Bhansali has repeatedly rebuffed the rumours about an alleged dream sequence between Padmavati and Khilji and even released a video saying that the film honours the valour of Rajputs and the queen.

She says that the director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has added meaning to her not just as an actor but also as a performer and also as a human being.

In January, Karni Sena protested, manhandled and misbehaved with the crew of "Padmavati" claiming that Bhansali was distorting historical facts in the film.

"As a woman, I feel proud to be a part of this film, and to tell this story, which needs to be told". The leading lady of the film Deepika Padukone also said that no one can stop the release of this movie. What have we gotten ourselves into?

Several tweets also defended Deepika Padukone's right to speak and asked why the male actors of Padmavati - Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor - have been spared the sort of savaging that their female co-star is being subjected to. "It's been a pretty incredible journey", said Deepika, who says she senses a soul, heart and mind connect with the director.

Chief minister Vasundhara Raje faces pressure from within her flock as two MLAs of BJP, Gyan Dev Ahuja, MLA from Alwar of Ramgarh Constituency, and Shaitan Singh Rathore, MLA from Jaisalmer, have written to her and in no uncertain terms demanded that the film be banned. And where have we reached as a nation? "Sanjay Leela Bhansali makes lovely films and there is nothing wrong with his movies".

However, amidst all the controversies and threats against the release of Padmavati, many Bollywood celebrities have shown their support towards Padmavati, including Karan Johar, Farhan Akhtar, Salman Khan and Jacqueline Fernandez.
