Cech: Sp*rs need to win trophies to show progress

Their last UEFA Champions League campaign prior to this season was very uninspiring and disappointing, but they've made some major noise this year.

Cech told Sky Sports: They've been there in the last few years so now I think they have to make sure they win something to show the progression.

With a steady improvement in their Premier League placings in recent years, Spurs have now established themselves as one of the strongest English clubs, placing third in 2016 and second in 2017, and are on course to challenge for the title this time around.

But Cech insists the title - and not just leapfrogging Tottenham - is still the Gunners' target.

Arsenal lifted the FA Cup in May, their third time winning the prestigious trophy in four years.

"But you need them to perform, you need to feel they are committed to the case, I have to say they come every day, they work and as a team we feel that - although there is a lot of speculation, their contracts are different to everyone else's - you can see they are committed to the team". Everything has been put into what we all wanted at Spurs.

Arsenal are now 6th in the league and are four points behind their North London rivals who sit in third place.

Who makes our combined Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur XI?

Does Crystal Palace ace Wilfried Zaha have what it takes to replace Alexis Sanchez at Arsenal?

There have been some mitigating circumstances, with the Chilean arriving back late from worldwide duty during the summer, and the German hampered by injury, but here we are heading for mid-November and between them they have just two goals and four assists. "Our target is to win the title".

Tottenham has not won a trophy since 2008 (the League Cup) and although they were the last team standing between the last two league champions and their eventual glory, it's still not a trophy.
