ASEAN Summit: PM Modi, Australia PM Turnbull hold bilateral meeting


The participating members of the 12th East Asia Summit are Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, the United States and Vietnam. He is set to also attend the 12th East Asia meet on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday strongly pitched for putting in place a rules-based regional security architecture, reflecting growing convergence among major players like India, the U.S. and Japan to have a coherent approach to deal with China's aggressive posturing in the Indo-Pacific region.

Echoing Premier Li, President Duterte urged the APT leaders "to continue nurturing peaceful coexistence, particularly within the APT, where we consider ourselves as one and a family".

Over the past two decades, cooperation between ASEAN and the three Northeast Asian countries "continued to flourish steadily among the ASEAN external partners' cooperation", he said.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak proposed the establishment of the East Asia Vision Group III to monitor the impact of the revolution on the economies of the said nations, and outline measures to deal with the situation.

"We are committed to curtailing the threat of terrorism and violent extremism through information sharing and law enforcement cooperation, including through our Southeast Asia Aviation and Border Security program, as well as strengthening data exchange with Interpol", it added. "It is time that we jointly address this challenge by intensifying cooperation in this crucial area", Modi said.
