The meeting follows Moon's bilateral summit with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in Danang, Vietnam last week. However, these issues were not mentioned during the summit meeting.

"We have, in turn, explained THAAD is not aimed at China but only toward curbing North Korea's nuclear and missile provocations", he said.

The leaders are expected to focus on cooperation on North Korea's nuclear threats and ways to normalize their ties strained by a year-long feud over Seoul's decision to allow for deployment of a U.S. missile defense system.

In a speech to business leaders at the summit on Friday, Trump called on governments in the region to unite against Kim and "not be held hostage to a dictator's twisted fantasies of violent conquest and nuclear blackmail".

"During the APEC summit on Saturday, Moon and Xi also agreed to immediately normalize bilateral exchanges in all sectors", Yoon added.
