A Dutch forensic team arrived in Malta on Tuesday to help investigate the auto bomb slaying of a journalist who scrutinized the country's top politicians and other powerful figures, an official said, as angry Maltese demanded the truth about who killed the anti-corruption crusader.
Journalists across Europe have condemned the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia, a Maltese journalist and blogger whose allegations about government corruption led to early elections last June. "I welcome the pledge by the Prime Minister of Malta to bring to justice this crime against a person and against the rights of freedom of expression and freedom of information, which are essential to democracies everywhere".

Earlier, the son of Malta's best-known investigative journalist said his mother was killed by a vehicle bomb because of her work exposing political corruption.
"My mother was assassinated because she stood between the rule of law and those who sought to violate it, like many strong journalists", her son wrote.
Gerard Ryle, the director of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), the organization behind the Panama Papers investigation, said, it was "deeply concerned about freedom of the press in Malta" and urged the authorities to investigate the killing.
He described the situation in Malta as volatile but also admitted a large number of people would be "comfortable" with Caruana Galizia's death because of her pursuit of corruption.
She was also the Malta journalist who was part of the worldwide Panama Papers investigation.

The National Union of Journalists (NUJ), the European and International Federations of Journalists (EFJ) and Reporters Without Borders (RSF) have all called for a swift and thorough investigation.
