Juan Martin del Potro showed flashes of his best as the Argentine upset Shanghai Masters third seed Alexander Zverev 3-6 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 to reach the quarter-finals.
After four games and only 13 minutes of play, Alexander Zverev was through at the Shanghai Masters.
But Del Potro levelled by taking the second set on a tie-brack, and when the 29-year-old secured a break of serve in the decider the red midst descended on Zverev.
Zverev was going after his sixth title of an outstanding season and was comfortable in the first set against Del Potro, the 2009 US Open champion and 16th seed.
