If the Sena withdraws support to the BJP, the Fadnavis government will be in a minorit and will need help from Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party or NCP.The BJP dramatically improved its performance in this year's BMC election from the 31 wards that it had won last time.
According to BMC officials, BJP candidate Jagruti Patel polled 11,129 votes in ward no. 116, while the Sena nominee, Minakshi Patil, got 6,337 votes. The bypoll was held as the seat had become vacant following the death of Congress corporator Pramila Patil on April 25.
The BJP and the Shiv Sena, who secured 82 and 84 seats respectively in the BMC elections in the month of February, are both trying to raise their tally.
With the latest victory, BJP's strength in the 227 member BMC increases to 82 while the ruling Shiv Sena has 84 corporators.

There were five more candidates contesting the by-poll - Pramila Singh (Congress), Baby Sawant (Bahujan Samaj Party), Smruti Jadhav (Janata Dal-Secular), Deepika Jadhav (Sambhaji Brigade) and Vaishali Gajdhane (Bahujan Mukta Party).
