US Plans To Withdraw From 'Anti-Israel' UNESCO

She said the Department of State today notified United Nations Scientific and Cultural Organisation Director-General Irina Bokova of the U.S. decision to withdraw from the organisation and to seek to establish a permanent observer mission to UNESCO.

While the United States withdrew from the group, the Trump administration said it wanted to continue to be engaged with UNESCO to provide USA perspective and expertise, but as a nonmember observer. According to the report, the move, which is expected to be announced as early as next week, would allow the USA to remain as an observer state in the organization that it helped establish after World War II.

The move is not a surprise, considering the Trump administration's public rebukes this past year.

The UN Education Science and culture organization had strained its relations with United States, following UNESCO's acceptance of Palestine as a full member.

The U.S. was strongly against it and withdrew funding, but the State Department remained in the world body.
