Farrow, who once hosted an afternoon program on MSNBC, took the story first to NBC News, but the network decided against running the story. "Immediately the New Yorker recognized that and it was not accurate to say that it was not reportable".
So, given that at least two arms of the NBC machine have chose to ignore the Weinstein story it's worth asking: Is NBC afraid of the former movie mogul - as Farrow implies - or were they engaged in a pattern of protecting him until the story got to big?
For the second time in a year, NBC News has given away a major scoop to another news outlet.
Two days ago, we learned that Lorne Michaels - the longtime mastermind behind NBC's Saturday Night Live - killed sketches dealing with the Weinstein story. "It was assigned at NBC, they've talked about how long it was there and the fact that there was a lot while it was there".
HuffPo, citing anonymous sources, reported that NBC had the report as recently as August, and that Farrow already had the audio recording of Weinstein at that time. But during a Tuesday appearance on NBC's cable news channel MSNBC, Farrow said he believed the story could have been broadcast.
The two men would also discuss why Farrow had to go to the New Yorker with his huge story rather than have NBC News run it, with Tapper asking Farrow what's the truth regarding how reportable the story was when presented to NBC. "The notion that we would try to cover for a powerful person is deeply offensive to all of us ..."
The contradiction has raised questions as to whether NBC was subjected to any pressure by Weinstein to suppress the reporting. Sources told HuffPost that NBC had concerns related to the story's sourcing and cleared Farrow to take it to The New Yorker.

Trump threatens broadcaster NBC after nuclear report
Trump was a real-estate mogul before taking office as USA president this January. Pure fiction, made up to demean. "NBC=CNN!" Trump tweeted Wednesday.
What's more, there was some concern within NBC News about whether Farrow's involvement in the story created a conflict of interest.
Farrow, who joined NBC in 2014 and formerly hosted an MSNBC program, appears to have been well along in his reporting about Weinstein at the time NBC made a decision to drop the story.
An NBC News spokesperson did not comment Wednesday on Farrow's remarks during Maddow's show. "I will say that over many years, many news organizations have circled this story and faced a great deal of pressure in doing so", he said.
They spiked the story, which eventually ran on The New Yorker's website.
NBC News was aware of the footage for almost four days before the Post published it, saying they sat on it so lawyers could finish reviewing it.
Weinstein has denied many - though not all - of the allegations, including all accusations of sexual assault. "We supported him and gave him resources to report that story over many, many months".
