Top Jaish commander among 4 militants killed in J&K today


Three Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were killed on Monday when a cordon and search operation (CASO) turned into an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian.

Security forces surrounded Gatipora village in Shopian in the afternoon following information about a group of militants hiding there.

Seeing the forces close in, the terrorists opened fire. "All three militants have been successfully killed", tweeted DGP S P Vaid.

Official sources said Pakistan-based JeM suffered a major setback after its chief operations commander Khalid Bhai, a Pakistani national, was killed in a brief gunfight at Ladoora Baramulla, 60 km north of Srinagar. Reports say that Abid belongs to terrorist outfit Hizbul Mujahideen.

Sources said that deceased trooper had received a bullet in his thigh in an intervening night of Sunday-Monday, adding that he was rushed to PHC Khag where from he was referred to JVC Srinagar where doctors declared him brought dead. The slain soldier was identified as Subedar Raj Kumar, 46, a resident of Khanni Nurpur, Kangra in Himachal Pradesh.
