Snapchat's new Context Cards use Snaps for spontaneous discovery


It will also factor in more personalized features, like which ride-haling app you use (if you don't have Uber installed, Snapchat will show links to Lyft).

Context Cards were produced with the help of Vurb, a mobile search company acquired by the Veince-based Snap 2016 for over $100 million, the company said. The full launch list of Context Cards partners includes TripAdvisor, Foursquare, Michelin, Goop, Uber, Lyft, OpenTable, and Resy.

The Context Cards displayed vary depending on the type of venue and the details available about the location.

The update will be available for iOS and Android users of the app in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK.

Snapchat's Context Cards are bound to be a big deal for the company and the platform - they're a new way for Snap to drum up business, for one, and they're also just starting out, with plenty of potential to grow in future. Other cards include more detailed user reviews, directions, operating hours, phone numbers, ride hailing options, reservations and additional Snaps from the same area submitted by other Snapchat users.

The Context Cards will always show you have most relevant information first. That will let users access related posts submitted to Our Story (if they're tagged at or near the location) as well as imagery from partners. Snap plans to add more partners over time.
