Malala attends her first lectures at Oxford


Two years after this tragedy, Malala became the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in history.

Yousafzai later went on to pen an global award-winning book, I Am Malala, set up The Malala Fund, and became the youngest ever Nobel Prize Laureate-having received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014.

The 20-year-old Nobel Prize for Peace victor tweeted a photo of her laptop, textbooks and a pencil on Monday, October 9.

"Five years ago, I was shot in an attempt to stop me from speaking out for girls education".

Her brother, Khushal Yousafzai, replied to her tweet saying, "Sorry for being a headache for the last five years". "Today, I attend my first lectures at Oxford".

"All the best. You are such a wonderful inspiration to every girl", wrote one Twitter user.

This however upset the Taliban, who then shot her in the head in an assassination attempt.

She narrowly avoided death on October 9 2012 after being shot in the head for her outspoken campaigning over girls' rights to an education.

She was later flown to the United Kingdom for treatment and completed her secondary education after recovering.

She continued her activism around the world and continued her education in England.
