However, the AMU audit did not cover BHU but it referred to the institution's name in its report.

Objecting to the purported suggestion of the government audit committee set up by the University Grants Commission (UGC) that the words "Muslim" and "Hindu" should be dropped from the names of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and Banaras Hindu University (BHU) respectively to reflect their secular character, former vice-chancellor of AMU, Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah said that trampling with traditions was not a good idea.

Earlier, there were reports that a UGC committee has suggested changes in BHU and AMU's names to reflect their secular characters.

Union Human Resource and Development Minister Prakash Javadekar on Monday refuted recommendation that the government is planning to change the names of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and Banaras Hindu University (BHU).

The audit, taken up by five committees, spanned across "academic, research, financial and infrastructural" aspects of the universities in question.

U-17 WC INDIA 2017: Colombia 2-1 India
Colombia had greater possession during the opening half but the Indians too had their chances which they didn't convert. The Colombians, though, came out strongly in the second half, to take the lead through a Juan Penaloza strike.

The same logic was stated behind the suggestion to rename BHU.

"The university's 60:40 ratio of Muslim and non-Muslim students was not a designed pattern but due to a large number of courses like Arabic, Urdu and Farsi for which only Muslim students apply", said Tariq Mansoor, the Vice Chancellor of AMU.

The institutions under the scanner include Pondicherry University, Allahabad University, Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University in Uttarakhand, Central University of Jharkhand, Central University of Rajasthan, Central University of Jammu, Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya in Wardha, University of Tripura and Hari Singh Gour University in Madhya Pradesh. The panel has recommended that there should be five-year gap for all ex-students before they can be recruited as teachers in AMU.

In order to investigate alleged irregularities in 10 central universities was the panel formed. Currently, AMU itself shortlists the candidates for the post while for most other central universities, the screening is done by a government-appointed selection committee.
