Swells generated as a result of the storm are increasing in parts of the southeastern coast, making for "life-threatening surf and rip current conditions", the center said.

Before then, the United Kingdom is set to be stuck in the middle of a ridge of high pressure to the east centred over Scandinavia, and a bout of low pressure systems including ex-Hurricane Maria to the west.

The Category 3 storm was centered about 100 miles north of the Dominican Republic Thursday afternoon and moving northwest at 9 mph. According to The Weather Channel, it's now located more than 500 miles south-southeast of Hatteras, North Carolina, moving north at about 9 mph. While Maria is not expected to impact any landmass for the next several days, concerns of some type of impact along the southeastern USA coast are growing after the latest model runs. The NHC also issued a storm surge watch along North Carolina's coast, spanning from Cape Lookout to Duck. Lee originally developed about two weeks ago, strengthening into a tropical storm for the first time September 16th.

Hurricane Maria's outer edges are expected to reach here by mid-week, and a tropical storm watch has been posted for the North Carolina coast to the Virginia line.

The storm is being steered on a path in between an area of high pressure to the east and an area of low pressure to its west. The dew points have been well into the 60s over the last several days, so at least the decreasing moisture in the air should allow for things to feel more comfortable for outdoor plans.

According to the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) in an 11 a.m. ET update on Sunday, the hurricane is now "slightly weaker" and is moving northward.

Hurricane Lee has reformed, becoming the eighth hurricane of the 2017 Atlantic hurricane season.

The Atlantic hurricane season will end on November 30. "This is likely to be followed by a northeasterly turn". The forecast track stays over open water and is not a threat to land.
