China to restrict oil exports to N.Korea

North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho, now in NY for a United Nations meeting, warned Thursday that the North could conduct a test of a hydrogen bomb over the Pacific.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said North Korea's Kim Jong Un is "being tested" by the strongest sanctions ever put in place by the USA and the global community.

The quake also caps a week in which President Trump and North Korea leader Kim Jong Un exchanged increasingly bellicose insults and follows a threat on Thursday by the North to carry out a significantly more risky nuclear test.

Exported refined oil products must be used fully on civil purposes, not for North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile programmes, or other activities banned by the UN Security Council, the ministry said.

Another official at the the Korea Meteorological Administration's command center said it is believed to have been a natural quake.

China appeared to heed Washington's call in turn Thursday, with Trump expressing gratitude for what he said was the Chinese central bank's decision to order commercial banks to stop doing business with North Korea.

The quake was centred near North Korea's nuclear test site. She said the analysis of seismic waves and the lack of sound waves clearly showed that the quake wasn't caused by an artificial explosion.

North Korea, which says it needs nuclear weapons to protect itself against the threat of a United States invasion, responded on Friday with a rare personal rebuke from Kim, who called Trump "mentally deranged" and threatened the "highest level of hard-line countermeasure in history".

Earlier on Saturday, China said it will limit exports of refined petroleum products from October 1 and ban exports of condensates and liquefied natural gas immediately to comply with the latest United Nations sanctions.

It imposes a 180-day ban on vessels and aircraft that have visited North Korea from visiting the United States.

In a rare direct statement, Kim said that Trump would "pay dearly" for the threats, and that North Korea "will consider with seriousness exercising of a corresponding, highest level of hard-line countermeasure in history".

The american bombers flew off the coast of north korea on Saturday to send a " clear message ".

After a week in which, with tweets and in a speech before the United Nations General Assembly, Trump introduced the derogatory nickname "Rocket Man" for Kim into global news coverage and left open his prerogative to "totally destroy" North Korea, the president gave no ground on Friday in his public standoff with his adversary.

Until now, the North has not tested its missiles and nuclear weapons together, opting instead to fire them separately - the missiles above ground and the nuclear weapons below.
