Violent protests have broken out in St. Louis, Missouri, after former police officer Jason Stockley was found not guilty of murdering Anthony Smith in 2011 after a high-speed chase following a suspected drug deal.

Police blocked protestors from getting on a major highway, so they marched to police headquarters.

Protests erupted today following the acquittal of former St. Louis police officer Jason Stockley, who was charged with first-degree murder past year in the shooting death of motorist Anthony Lamar Smith in 2011.

The march, which began peacefully, turned violent after police officers used pepper spray on protesters who were blocking a bus police carrying additional cops to the scene.

Jason Stockley has claimed to have seen Anthony Lamar Smith's attempt to seize a gun in his vehicle, but weapon does not appear on images of onboard camera in police auto, nor on those taken by a witness on his mobile phone and by surveillance camera of a nearby restaurant.

With protests taxing local crowd security, the event was in competition for personnel to ensure the smooth handling of tens of thousands of concertgoers.

Stockley said to his partner, in an audio-recorded statement, "we're killing this motherfucker, don't you know", minutes before killing Smith.
