Singapore Grand Prix qualifying: Vettel on pole for night race

Hamilton is hoping that circumstances will give him a helping hand in the race.

They may be regarded as favourites for Sunday's Singapore Grand Prix (GP) due to their cars' ability to generate more downforce - a trait which allows them to better navigate the notoriously twisty Marina Bay street circuit - but Ferrari drivers Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen believe this weekend's race will not be a straightforward one.

Vettel's sensational time of 1min.39.491sec. was the fastest ever pole position time in either of the three configurations of the circuits used since the debut of the event in 2008. All but two of the races in Singapore have been won from pole and Hamilton is on a roll, having won three of the last four grands prix.

The four-time champion was clearly ecstatic to snatch the pole after a hard start to qualifying which saw him down on pace.

Valtteri Bottas finished a further half-second back in the sister Mercedes.

Vettel has won the Singapore GP 2017 pole, his fourth in Singapore after a tightly contested session between Ferrari and Red Bull. Mercedes had a slow day in qualifying, Hamilton only managed fifth.

"No, he is lagging behind since yesterday actually", Wolff said.

Correction: Saturn is nearly 750 million miles from Earth, not 750 billion miles, as originally stated in this article. But Saturn has an allure like no other planet, and scientists are already cooking up plans to get a craft back there.

"I said Ferrari could be a problem and now it's Red Bull", Mercedes' Niki Lauda explained. "Even if you say this track favours one team over the other, it doesn't guarantee anything.it depends on things like the weather, the safety vehicle, and what happens in the race". "Soft could also be an interesting race tyre". "I've just got to try and keep the pressure on without cooking my vehicle".

Sebastian Vettel delivered a stunning lap to bag himself an all-important pole position for the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix, while points leader Lewis Hamilton qualified down the grid in.

Kimi Raikkonen, who said "not a lot of things made sense" for Ferrari on Friday practice, continued to struggle as he posted the ninth best time, eight tenths behind teammate Vettel. "It was not just a little brush either, it was actually a hit".

"It was fine until I approached the last corner, I had huge vibration".

Away from the track, Hamilton, 32, has also revealed this weekend that he will be adapting his diet after watching the pro-vegan Netflix film "What the Health".

"I think all in all the whole weekend was good progression, getting better and better". The pollution that is coming from producing cows is incredible. "We are still not where Ferrari or Mercedes is". "It's a tough race, we'll all feel the pain, but I want this one - I really want it - so hopefully that hunger prevails".
