IOC President Thomas Bach embraced both cities' mayors on stage after a unanimous show of hands by IOC members ratified the awards.
Bach added: "It is hard to imagine something better". The International Olympic Committee (IOC) voted Wednesday in Lima for French capital Paris to host the 2024 Summer Olympic Games and Los Angeles of the United States the 2028 Games.
One concern for Paris is that its bid was based on the sports in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
This will be the third time Los Angeles has hosted the Olympic Games; the city first hosted the Olympics in 1932, and then did so again in 1984, with athletic events taking place throughout Los Angeles and in venues across Southern California.
"We continue to prepare for what promises to be a superb Tokyo 2020, congratulate Paris and look forward to working in full partnership with both organising committees and the IOC to ensure spectacular men's and women's rugby sevens". Celebrating the decision in jubilance, Paris and Los Angeles both expressed their excitement in bringing home the Olympic Games.
Paris, with a Games budget of 6.8 billion euros ($8.09 billion), had failed with previous attempts to land the 1992, 2008 and 2012 Olympics.
