Damaging winds from Irma have left many in the Peach State without power since Monday. Several hard-hit Caribbean islands, including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, suffered more than half the fatalities.

Some 6.7 million homes and businesses in Florida and nearby states still had no power on Tuesday after the pummeling from Hurricane Irma, as utility companies scrambled to get the lights back on in one of the biggest power restoration efforts in USA history. "Our job is not finished until every customer is reconnected and we want to thank the millions of customers who depend on us for electric service every day for their patience during restoration". "Now we are literally into the house-to-house combat mode".

At least 32 deaths have been reported in Florida and seven more combined in Georgia and SC.

A total of eight others died in Georgia and the Carolinas.
