Arsene Wenger gives latest update to Arsenal fans about Mesut Ozil

While I am fully aware that not every Arsenal is as positive about the team and the quality that is available to Arsene Wenger in the Arsenal squad as I am, or as optimistic about our chances of success this season or even this weekend as we travel to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, but I almost spat out my beer when I saw the team picked by the former Arsenal and England midfielder Paul Merson as a combined best XI from the two London rivals. We won previous year here [at the Emirates], we won in the FA Cup final, we won on penalties in the Charity Shield.

Arsenal started their Europa League opener against Cologne with a three-man central defence on Thursday, and they struggled at times.

Wenger revealed that two key players will be rested for the game against Cologne, while disclosing that Francis Coquelin who went off injured in Arsenal's 3-0 win against Bournemouth at the weekend, will be sidelined for close to a month.

Speaking at a news conference at Arsenal's training ground on Wednesday, Wenger said: "Yes, of course (I am hopeful Ozil will sign a new deal)".

Arsenal will give late fitness tests to midfielders Mezut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey, but otherwise have a clean bill of health. Coquelin is out for three weeks.

In the last campaign, however, Ozil endured a dip in form for major parts of the first half of the season before a late surge in performance saw him end the campaign with 12 goals and 14 assists in 44 appearances across all competitions. He was injured so was a bit behind, but now he is getting better.
