Warriors sign jersey-patch advertising deal with Rakuten

However, it seems Rakuten are happy to splash the cash to sponsor the biggest in most successful sport teams in the world as they are also the jersey sponsor for Spanish soccer giants, FC Barcelona; a deal which started prior to the start of this season.

Darren Rovell of ESPN reports Rakuten, a Japanese tech company, will pay the Warriors $20 million per year to have their logo sewn on the jerseys of the Warriors.

The Warriors will sell authentic and replica jerseys and jersey T-shirts with the Rakuten logos at Oracle Arena. In addition, Rakuten Group company Ebates, a leading membership-based online cash-back site in the US, will become the Warriors Official Shopping Rewards Partner, the global mobile voice messaging service Rakuten Viber will become the Official Instant Messaging and Calling App Partner and the Rakuten Kobo eReaders will become the Official E-Reader Partner of the Warriors.

On top of that, Rakuten will also be the Warriors' official e-commerce partner and work with the team to coordinate video-on-demand and affiliate marketing. "We felt in order to grow out global vision, we had to be aligned with a global brand".

The Warriors are the 14th National Basketball Association franchise to sign a uniform endorsement deal.

Of course, there is more to the deal than simply adding a path on the uniforms. Ebates will become the team's official shopping rewards partner, Viber will be official instant messaging and calling app, while Kobo will be the official e-reader partner.
