The number of victims in the quake in Mexico has risen

Addressing the twin disasters, the Mexican government announced in a statement that it would divert the resources it would have sent to Texas, reallocating them instead to those in need of aid within the nation's borders.

In a statement, the country offered food, generators and medical aid "as good neighbors should always do in trying times".

Because of the quake and Hurricane Katia that hit Mexico a day later, the foreign ministry said Monday it could no longer send supplies and personnel to the US state of Texas that is dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey that struck late last month.

The announcement by Mexico that it was withdrawing its offer to help Texas must have caught someone's attention in Washington.

But it has also been widely noted in Mexico that President Trump did not send condolences after the natural disaster. The ministry followed up the next day with a list of what it could offer, including food, soldiers, medicine and water.

According to a report from The Daily Beastearly Wednesday morning, the State Department said in an email that the United States would "work with our partners, including Mexico" if the need for assistance arose, although another email from an unnamed Mexican official stated that neither Texas nor the federal government had answered the offer.

Though the United States and Mexico have historically been close allies, relations have been strained since Trump took office.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson spoke with Mexican Foreign Secretary Luis Videgaray on Monday night and offered condolences for the tragedies.

After the recent quake that affected the country as well as the devastation caused by Hurricane Katia, Mexico has made a decision to put aid efforts in its own victims, pulling help from Texas. Tillerson told Videgaray the USA stood ready to help Mexico.
