Seattle Mayor Ed Murray resigned Tuesday after his younger cousin publicly accused him of of sexual abuse-the fifth man to allege inappropriate sexual conduct by the Democratic leader, the Seattle Times reports.
Murray has denied all of the allegations.
Seattle Mayor Ed Murray, center, motions as he stands with other city officials following an inauguration ceremony for city officials Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, in Seattle.
"I'm proud of all that I have accomplished over my 19 years in the Legislature, where I was able to pass what were at the time the largest transportation packages in state history, a landmark gay civil rights bill and a historic marriage equality bill". In light of the latest allegations, he said it was clear it is best for the city for him to step aside.
Murray made the announcement after the Seattle Times reported on the allegations by the mayor's first cousin once removed, Joseph Dyer.
This time, it was a cousin that accused him of abuse, telling the Times that when the two shared a bedroom at a home in NY in the mid-1970s, Murray forced the then-13-year-old into sex.
As mayor, he pushed to raise the city's minimum hourly wage to $15.

Buildings Sway in High Winds as Florida Goes Dark
Jacksonville, the largest city geographically in the U.S, is grappling with a record storm surge and enormous flooding. After making its way into Georgia, the storm is forecast to move into eastern Alabama on Tuesday morning.
City Councilmember Bruce Harrell will become mayor and will decide within five days whether to fill out the remainder of the term, the statement says. Seattle director of operations Fred Podesta will lead the transition.
Dyer, now 54-years-old, said the abuse began when he was thirteen and shared a bedroom with his cousin. The lawsuit has since been withdrawn but Heckard has filed a claim for damages against the city of Seattle.
Murray continues to deny all the accusations.
"I am offering this declaration to rebut Murray's claims that he never molested a child and/or the allegations against him were concocted as some sort of right-wing conspiracy".
Murray ended his re-election bid earlier this year because of the scandal, but had staved calls for his resignation before his term is completed this year.
"Speaking out confidently in favor of removing Murray from office is not 'grandstanding, '" said Dyer, possibly referring to council member Sally Bagshaw's comment during a weekly briefing in July.
