Twenty crew members and eight support staff rolled out of Hydro's Etobicoke yard in a convoy Tuesday morning, said Tori Gass, a media relations specialist for the city-owned utility.

Gass said the crews will bring their bucket trucks and Toronto Hydro expects most of the work to involve fixing overhead wires.

Toronto Hydro is sending almost 30 workers to Florida on Tuesday to help restore power to the Tampa area following Hurricane Irma.

Most of the employees are expected to cross the border on Monday afternoon and arrive Wednesday.

"We'll take our instructions from them and they will tell us exactly what they want us to do", said Dominion spokesman Chuck Penn.

Hydro crews from Toronto are joining the effort to get power back online in Florida in the wake of Hurricane Irma.

Hydro One has reciprocal agreements in place with North American utilities to provide assistance during significant power outages.

In these situations, all costs are covered by the utility receiving the help. "The commitment of our employees to assist during times of crisis is something every Ontarian should be proud of", Kiraly said. "Our crews are working to restore power for Gulf Power's customers and we are staged and ready to deploy to help rebuild the power grid in some of the hardest impacted areas across the Southeast". However, another Florida utility could request their help after all Tampa power is restored. Up to 20,000 Gulf Power customers could lose power from the storm. In 2012, 225 Hydro One employees travelled to Long Island, N.Y., to help out with Hurricane Sandy.
