Latest update on Hurricane Jose

Florida allowed some residents to return on Tuesday to areas hammered by Hurricane Irma's high winds and storm surge, it was the second major hurricane to hit the United States this year, Reuters reported.

Jose, which has now lessened from a Category 4 to a Category 2 hurricane, was called a "messy looking hurricane" but the U.S.'s National Hurricane Center latest update as of September 11.

"Even with such a complex track expected to evolve, there is good agreement amongst most of the model guidance", the National Hurricane Center said in a forecast discussion.

The hurricane center's forecast shows Jose reintensifying into a hurricane by early Thursday and turning more to the west, a track that could bring it within a few hundred miles of the Bahamas by the weekend.

It comes as Hurricane Irma tore a path of destruction across the Caribbean and through the south east.

- With Hurricane Irma gone, the only other named storm out in the Atlantic Ocean is Hurricane Jose.

The storm is now 655 miles northwest of Puerto Rico moving east at 6 mph, and is expected to loop to the southeast and southwest before it heads northwest by Friday.

Currently, global forecast models keep the storm near the Eastern Seaboard through Tuesday.

It's possible that Jose could become a tropical storm by the day's end.

Hurricane Jose has gotten very little coverage, lurking in the shadows of Irma for the past several days. The rest kept the storm out to sea. "There is some indication of it getting a nudge towards the Southeast coast by next weekend", said meteorologist Shea Gibson with the forecasting company WeatherFlow.

In the meantime, the only impact from the hurricane will be rough surf and the chance of rip currents in Hispaniola, the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands over the next couple of days.
