Honda will offered electrified option of all new vehicle models in Europe

The Honda Urban EV Concept is meant for inner-city shopping trips and multi-storey parking shenanigans, which is why it is 100mm shorter than a Jazz supermini and has four seats - the rearmost bench accessible via rear-opening coach doors because that makes life easier.

And going by Hachigo's words in Frankfurt we have reason to remain positive: "This is not some vision of the distant future, he said". The small electric vehicle has a bit of a throwback flair to it and will actually find its way into production for the European market in 2019.

The Urban EV will be Honda's first all-electric vehicle for Europe. The round LED headlamps and angular body are clear references to the first-generation Honda Civic, while the backlit Honda emblem will become a feature on all Honda EVs. For example, in between the headlights and taillights there are displays to deliver info such as charging status updates, or even advice for other drivers.

The inside of the concept auto features two bench-style seats that can accommodate four people.

The Urban EV Concept features the kind of simple yet satisfying styling we've always loved in our favorite hatchbacks. The interior is a very warm place, thanks to lots of wood and natural fabric throughout the interior.

We've looked at this concept a little bit in the past, including this technology from BMW, - the opportunity to use your electric vehicle as more than just a device that moves you around. Whilst the extended door screens function as the car's wing mirrors through digital camera displays.

Production cars rarely end up that close to the original concept, but then we will only have to wait for the Urban EV Concept to arrive in Europe in 2019 to see whether that will be the case.

Honda is not quoting details of the EV Urban Concept's performance or its range yet, but it will no doubt take advantage of the Power Manager Concept also launched at the Frankfurt show.
