The Mercedes-AMG Project One extracts this sort of performance from a 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 motor that has been inspired from Mercedes' Formula 1 endeavours.
A two-seater supersports showcar, Project One is billed as bringing the very latest fully-fledged Formula 1 hybrid technology to the consumer market. However, it won't come cheap - the Project One is priced at an eye-watering $2.53 million dollars. It should also be noted that while the Project One is close to being signed off, the vehicle and details provided here relate to what is still technically a concept - but a concept that Mercedes says "gives specific indications of what to expect from the upcoming production model".
The batteries, mounted at the front to aid weight distribution, are also of the same technology used in F1 and help deliver approximately 15 miles of pure electric range. But all that power does do a number on the battery. But you at least get a few creature comforts that aren't otherwise found inside Mercedes' Grand Prix competitor, like two big digital displays, air conditioning, and a dock for your smartphone in the center console.
As for the transmission, AMG describes the all-new eight-speed unit as a "manual", but you won't find a conventional lever to swap cogs. A hypercar with an F1 engine that can be driven on the road, simple as that.
Unlike an F1 vehicle, the hypercar is all-wheel-drive, with torque vectoring helping to translate all that power in a direction of the driver's choosing. The amusing bit is that the model will also feature and all-electric driving mode, during which it will become the first ever FWD hypercar, since only the front axle will receive power. Inside, there's room for two with bucket seats that have adjustable backrests while still being integrated into the monocoque. There are two 10-inch screens, one in front of the driver and the other in the dash center and beneath it are two ventilation nozzles suspended like a gondola. This intake is one of many prominent vents that contribute both to cooling the powertrain and improving the Project One's aerodynamic efficiency.
The Mercedes-AMG Project ONE will go from 0-200 kmph in less that 6 seconds and will have a top speed of over 350 kmph!
Sadly, AMG plans to build just 275 examples, and all build slots have been sold.
