The only visible opening in that all-metal jacket is at the USB-C port. Atom SSDs and Atom RAIDs come with both a USB-C to USB-C (3.1) cable, and a USB-C to USB 3.0 cable.

While last year's T3 SSD achieved speeds of 450MB per second max, this year Samsung has made sure its new T5 model could beat it, delivering transfer speeds of up to 540MB per second in a device that barely measures much more than a box of sultanas, and is about as light, too.

Portable solid-state drives have a number of advantages over its traditional counterparts. Just don't ask the price tag. The price is $129.99 based on the 250GB model. Then of course, since this is the next generation in SSD storage technology, it's also worth noting that the V-NAND T5 drive is not only much more robust than any conventional HDD drive, it's also a fair bit more reliable than many older SSD storage formats on the market. The size of T5 is 74 x 57.3 x 10.5 millimeters and its weight is only 51 grams. That size is ideal for transferring content on-the-go. The T5 can also withstand most accidental drops of up to two metres thanks to its shock-resistant internal frame and no moving parts. Backing up its durability claims Samsung provides a 3-year limited warranty.

Samsung's new Portable SSD T5 is compatible not just with computers but with a wide range of smartphones, tablets and TVs. Shipping windows now range from two-day delivery for Prime members on the 250GB model, while the larger capacities are backordered in some instances.
