Starting on Wednesday night, the Republican president retweeted a series of Twitter posts related to his Democratic predecessor, starting with one by John Bolton, a former USA ambassador to the United Nations and Fox News contributor, who said the United States is at risk because of Obama. A new generation is learning that America's nuclear arsenal is on a hairtrigger. The Defense Department and Energy Department spent billions of dollars on refurbishing the arsenal and bringing aging nuclear weapons up to modern capabilities as well as guidance systems and related technologies. "We never do. I don't talk about it", Trump told reporters when asked about a preemptive strike. "He may in future, once the Department of Defense's nuclear review is complete, but that prospect is still months away".

Trump wrote in an early morning tweet: "My first order as President was to renovate and modernize our nuclear arsenal". The Pentagon last conducted a review in 2010 that was ordered by then-President Barack Obama.

The two are not the same, as explained here. Just hours after his inauguration in January, Trump did sign an executive order, but it was one aimed at "minimizing the economic burden" of Obamacare, noting it was the policy of the new administration "to seek the prompt repeal" of the law, according to the document.

Walters did not provide additional information on upgrades to the arsenal itself, per the White House pool report.

It is unclear to what extent, if any, the United States nuclear arsenal has been modernized since Trump took office. The longstanding goal of those agreements has been to reduce the overall number of nuclear weapons worldwide.

"It's totally inconsistent with what he's saying".

Trump went on to say, "Hopefully we will never have to use this power, but there will never be a time that we are not the most powerful nation in the world".

Mr. Trump suggested in tweets that in his almost seven months of serving as commander in chief, he has made the arsenal more robust. "You don't just initiate a modernization plan", she said.

"I think this reflects that the President is not well-informed about the capacity of the USA nuclear arsenal and its capabilities", said Reif, who called the tweets "reckless posturing".
