The opener was not kind to either starting pitcher, however, as Philadelphia's Vince Velasquez left the game after the first inning because of numbness in his right middle finger, while New York's Jacob deGrom exited in the seventh with a bruised right triceps after he was hit by a line drive. The 24-year-old right-hander will face the Mets at home next. Lagares replaced Jay Bruce, who was traded to Cleveland on Wednesday night.

A natural first baseman, Hoskins started in left field after getting his first action there as a pro just this week at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

In his major league debut, Smith played 5.2 innings at first base before being double switched out in the sixth.

The Mets won the game 10-0, and deGrom picked up the win. NY has won 16 of the past 19 series against the Phillies and is 4-0 in Philadelphia this season.

Will Seth Lugo lead the Mets to a victory on Friday night in Philadelphia when they visit the Phillies at 7:05PM ET?

DeGrom (13-5) gave up four hits in 6 2/3 scoreless innings with nine strikeouts and no walks.
