Man Utd return to negotiating table for Inter Milan ace Perisic

Inter Milan have slapped an asking price of around £48m for the transfer of Perisic, something Barcelona could comfortably afford after the sale of Neymar, which was paid in full by the Ligue 1 club.

Jose Mourinho has said Inter Milan "put up a good defence" as Manchester United sought to sign winger Ivan Perisic.

The Red Devils play their first game of the new Premier League season this afternoon when they take on West Ham United, with Mourinho equipped with three new signings to boost his chances of a title challenge.

Mourinho is hoping to bring in one or two more players before the window shuts, having admitted on Friday that he had landed 75 per cent of his transfer targets, namely Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Vidic and Victor Lindelof.

The Mirror says United chief Ed Woodward is trying to give Mourinho his ideal summer by finally landing Perisic.

Perisic, who had been thought to be available for about £45million, scored 11 goals and created eight assists for Inter in Serie A last campaign and Mourinho can see why the Italian side are desperate to keep hold of him.

The Croatian worldwide, who impressed for his country at Euro 2016, offers the potent attacking play and defensive work rate that Mourinho is looking for, meaning he could be the ideal left winger in this United side.

Inter winger Perisic has been heavily linked with a big-money move to Old Trafford this summer but talk of a transfer away from the San Siro has quietened down recently.

Spalletti's claims add further weight to remarks he made last month that United's deal for Perisic was dead in the water.
