Tesla self-driving truck set for road testing

It isn't putting all its testing eggs in the Nevada basket, and is also reported to be in talks with officials in California that a California DMV spokesperson called Jessica Gonzales told Reuters was "to talk about Tesla's efforts with autonomous trucks".

If successful in its pursuits, Tesla could disrupt the truck manufacturers, the energy sector, and the drivers themselves.

Entrepreneur and billionaire Elon Musk never stops when it comes to innovation, and now his company, Tesla, is developing a long-haul, electric semi-truck that will be self-driving.

It's a sure bet then, that Tesla's plans to automate its upcoming electric truck may come to fruition sooner than we thought possible.

Odinga Should Heed His Own Words to Strengthen Kenyan Democracy
A resident of Nairobi's Kawangware slum said police fired tear gas at dozens of Odinga supporters throwing stones on Thursday. Commission chairman Wafula Chebukati has said a hacking attempt was made but it failed.

Amazon Moving Into US Ticket Sales, Threatens Ticketmaster Dominance
Live Nation, which owns Ticketmaster, declined to comment on the news and Amazon failed to return a request for comment. The firm already sells ticket in Britain, and has outsold Ticketmaster for some events, according to Reuters .

Tesla is heavily engaged in autonomous driving developments for cars. The advantages of platooning is that it's theoretically safer-if the lead truck slows down, the rest automatically follow.

The Californian company was exchanging emails with the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to get approval of tests on public roads for two truck prototypes that will drive in Nevada and California. If self-driving trucks become predominant on the roads, it could steal business from Berkshire owned railroad Burlington Northern, Buffett hinted. On July 10, Zamani inquired further to the Nevada DMV about terms for a testing license, an email seen by Reuters shows. He made no reference to any dates for potential road tests. "And if you had a tug-of-war competition, the Tesla Semi will tug the diesel semi uphill".

Tesla declined to comment on the matter, referring Reuters to the previous statements by Musk, who has discussed the truck in tweets and at the annual shareholder meeting. (Otto later claimed it did in fact have an engineer farther back in the cab of the truck.) It appears Tesla learned Uber's lesson and contacted the state's DMV first, although the Nevada DMV said that Tesla has not yet applied for the necessary permits to test an autonomous semi in the state.

Lithium ion battery researcher Venkat Viswanathan of Carnegie Mellon University said electric long-haul trucking is not economically feasible yet.
