Aston Villa have named John Terry as the club captain for next season.

Terry became Villa's first signing of the summer when he signed a one-year deal earlier this month, after calling time on a 22-year career at Chelsea, where he skippered the club to five Premier League titles.

Manchester United have announced that goalkeeper Sam Johnstone will spend next season on loan at Aston Villa.

However, they lost to a side a division below, Zak Jules and Arthur Gnahoua goals - both coming after Terry was subbed off around the hour mark - earning the Shrews a 2-1 victory, Henri Lansbury netting a late penalty for the visitors.
