Heavy rainfall in the state was followed by flood fury with several places including Kalahandi districts being inundated causing that extensive damage to bridges, and snapping road and railway connectivity in several areas. "No effort will be spared to ensure the safety of the people, ' said Patnaik".
As incessant rains continued in Odisha for the second day, the National Highway 26 was blocked on Monday due to the flood situation in Kalahandi district.
Odisha is staring at a major flood this monsoon after over 520 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours in Kalahandi and Rayagada districts flooded most parts of the two districts with one person dying in a landslide.
As per reports, almost 5,000 to 7,000 people have been affected by the flash floods as several parts are now submerged.
"There are flash floods in Kalyansinghpur of Rayagada caused by the rivers Nagavalli and Kalyani", Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said after reviewing the flood situation at an emergency meeting held at the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC).
