Large police contingent expected at slain trooper's funeral

Police say a Fort Drum soldier, Staff Sgt. Justin Walters, fatally shot his 27-year-old wife before shooting Davis. Troopers said Nichole Walters had been shot multiple times in the home's driveway.

Civilians and members of law enforcement lined the streets and stood outside the funeral home where Trooper Joel Davis body was taken to in Watertown.

Family and friends will gather Sunday to lay 27 year-old Nichole Walters to rest. He's being held without bail in Jefferson County jail, facing charges of first and second degree murder. He had served in the 10th Mountain Division since joining the Army in 2007.

MLive.com, a MI news outlet, reported earlier this week that Walters plotted to shoot up his MI middle school while a teenager. Police were tipped off to the plot before anyone was hurt.

Davis was shot and killed Sunday night while responding to a call in Theresa, New York - a village about 90 miles north of Syracuse.

The funeral for Trooper Joel Davis was held Saturday at Fort Drum.
