Liverpool allow Lucas Leiva to hold Lazio talks

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has been given permission to speak to Lazio about a £5m move to Italy.

Although Jurgen Klopp is a fan of Lucas' versatility, it is no secret that the Reds boss is looking to strengthen his midfield and that would nearly certainly leave Lucas out in the cold.

Newcastle were understood to have expressed an interest in Lucas earlier this summer, with former Reds boss Rafa Benitez keen to team up once again with the midfielder.

At the end of the 2016-17 season, Lucas was given a commemorative plaque to mark his 10 years as a Liverpool player.

The 23-year-old has been linked with a possible €22m move to Tottenham, despite having insisted this month that he had no plans to leave. "We will see", the German added.

Interestingly, Leiva now is Liverpool's longest-serving player and has made over 300 appearances for the Merseyside club since joining from Brazilian club Gremio back in 2007.

It has been suggested that some within the Leipzig camp are now coming around to the idea of selling Keita, who was voted the second best player in the Bundesliga last season.

He has made 346 appearances during his decade at Liverpool, last season playing 31 times in midfield and central defence.
