Serena Williams tried to deposit first $1M check at bank drive-thru

Tennis star Serena Williams, for example, is up for two awards: Best Female Tennis player, expectedly, and the coveted Best Female Athlete.

"I've actually never played for money - I just thought you would go out there and hold a trophy", Williams told sports business manager Maverick Carter on the personal finance video series "Kneading Dough". It comes as no surprise then that when Williams received her first million-dollar check she kept it safely in the bank. "She can do it, that's for sure, and she's perhaps the only one who could do it", Henin added. "I think I spend most of my time on the road so this has been a really great way to really get my sleep and turn it into power".

So when the time came to cash in her first million dollars, the 35-year-old hilariously recalled being at a loss on the protocol. "I ended up going inside, so I was just like, 'Just put it in my account.' I should have took a picture of it, but selfies didn't exist back then".

She also told Carter that she wants to give her child everything she had, and, as the Huff Post interview reveals, she will do everything she can to achieve that goal.
