Ranked World number five, Roger Federer, defeated last year's finalist Alexander Zverev 6-1, 6-3 to record straight set win and added another glory to his list, with a ninth Halle Open title on Sunday.

"He's the best of all time on this surface", Zverev said of facing Federer, whom he beat in the semifinals a year ago.

Roger Federer reflected on a "difficult year" after beating Alexander Zverev to win a ninth Halle title as he provided the ideal platform to build upon for Wimbledon.

Khachanov, being fairly new to the tour, aged just twenty-one, and having only recently played his sixtieth tour level match, has not yet faced the veteran Federer. "It was by far my best match of the week".

"It was important to be aggressive off the baseline and make him feel my variation and the power I can bring to the court", Federer said after the game.

Despite a shock exit from Stuttgart on his comeback last fortnight, Federer has improved in Halle and has not yet lost a set. Zverev created his only break chance in the opening game of the second, but ultimately was unable to show why he is regarded as one of the sport's brightest prospects. In the victory, Federer won 71 percent of his first serve points and 58 percent of his second serve points. Thus, the 18-time Grand Slam champion sealed the first set 6-1 with only 22 minutes played.

The 35-year-old lured Khachanov to the net on several occasions, including at 4-4 in the second set and the Russian dumped a forehand volley into the net to give Federer two break points.

The Swiss top seed, bidding for an historic ninth title at the grass venue whose stadium and ground are styled after Wimbledon, needed four match points over two games to advance to the final four on Friday, securing victory through a forehand victor after 66 minutes.

"I played unbelievably well".

This is going to be a fun match between these two talented players, as Zverev is growing up before our eyes and Federer is, well, Federer.

"I think it was a very good week for me again making the finals here. The future belongs to him", Federer said.
